Ancestral memory
Changing identities
Masks, like avatars, can be understood as a desire for privacy protection and as devices that foster interplay between identity, technology, power, and ancestral memory.
At the Museo Dorado Alhma, these masks become silent characters that embody changing identities, inviting you to look at the world through emotions that oscillate from strangeness, sadness, serenity, and pain to melancholy. The section provides a personified psychological setting, mixed with the memory of other ancient modes of civilisation in which the golden masks were used as symbols of power, prestige, and transcendence and they were funerary or ritual in character. The digital texturing evokes techniques of porcelain and lacquering.
